Sink Definition

by Laurent Cousineau
(Montreal)

When discussing climate change or environmental issues, a sink refers to any process, activity or mechanism that could remove an aerosol, a greenhouse gas, or a precursor of these from the air.

Carbon Sinks

More specifically, a carbon sink is a natural or artificial reservoir which will store carbon and hence reduce carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.

In fact, plants act as carbon sinks via carbon sequestration.

Furthermore, installing carbon sinks is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.
