Saving Earth: My Mission
(Kyneton, VIC, Australia.)
I'm Nadya from the state of Victoria, in Australia. I've been saving the planet since 1988, way back in my school days, when I first heard about climate change.
Back then, they called it "The Greenhouse Effect." I came across a magazine that came with the newspaper, and it had a picture of our planet with the heading, "The dying Earth." It got my attention and I read the 20 page report of the future to come.
From then on, I knew what to do in my life, as this was serious. I learned to propagate plants and planted many since then.
We formed an Environment Club at school which recycled and promoted a greener future. After I finished school, I went on to study horticulture and between all that, had a son, traveled, worked and did all the things that we do.
Walking the Talk
I continued planting, recycling wherever I went, tried to stop logging in local areas, joined gardening, land care, conservation groups and encouraged a lot of people to become addicted to gardening along the way.
A lot of the trees that I planted from the beginning look like they are over 50 years old as their trunks are huge and there is a forest around our house. My recent project has been conserving land for wildlife in our paddock, where I fenced off 5 acres and planted many trees, shrubs, grasses, etc.
Just Getting Started
The next project will be a wildlife corridor along the local road to join up with the forest. Needless to say, I will continue to plant and regenerate the land.
In addition, I am joined by other local members in battling to save indigenous land sites from development in many areas here, as well as signing millions of petitions on the Internet to save wilderness areas, and writing to the Prime Minister as well as other members of Parliament if needed.
I will battle on to save the Earth!!!
